January 17 - The Secret Life of Pacific Chorus Frogs presented by MPRPD from 3pm-5pm. Discover the life & habitats of the Pacific chorus frog from egg to tadpole to adult. Learn to speak frog language. Game-play teaches us ways tadpoles protect themselves in the water. January 23 & 24 - Whalefest Monterey at Fisherman's Wharf. This free fun and educational, interactive family event for all ages celebrates the migration of the gray whales. The event runs from 10am to 5pm and also benefits many local and national marine organizations that inspire, educate, explore and empower the public to protect the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Among the highlights will be a symposium with lectures and documentaries related to ocean and marine life conservation, musical performances, and many educational displays by participating organizations. Now is the time to visit The Monarch Sanctuary in Pacific Grove. The sanctuary is located at 1073 Lighthouse Avenue in Pacific Grove. Stop by the Sanctuary, view the butterflies, and learn why thousands of them stay in Pacific Grove every winter. There is no admission fee. The best time to see the monarchs is noon to 3pm.
