What's Happening This Month?

May 6-May 27 - Kid’s Etiquette at Hill Top Park in Monterey. This class is fun, interactive, educational, and entertaining. Children develop their social skills and character while building self-esteem, confidence and leadership skills. For ages 7-12 years. MCR $20, OCR $26. May 8 & 9 - 11th Annual Marina International Festival of the Winds in Marina. Kite flying, hang gliding, wind-related kids crafts, live music and entertainment and food. Admission is free. Glorya Jean Tate Park and Marina State Beach. Saturday from 10am - 5:30pm and Sunday from 10am - 5pm. www.marinafestival.com

May 10 - Join the Boy Scouts. Pack 43 is recruiting grades 1 - 5. Open house Monday at 6:30pm in San Carlos Cathedral's "Old Parish Hall", 500 Church Street, Monterey. Please contact our pack leader at sancarlospack43@gmail.com for more information.

May 13-16 - Salinas Valley Fair Enjoy the atmosphere of an old-fashioned county fair, complete with carnival, bull-riding, craft and 4-H exhibits, music and more. New fair hours. May 15 & 16 - Castroville Artichoke Festival. Have some fun sampling artichokes with musical entertainment, arts and crafts. Admission: $6 adults and $3 for children. 831-633-2465 www.artichoke-festival.org

May 11 & 13, June 1 & 3 - Nature for the Preschool Explorer. Visit the Pacific Grove Museum on a Tuesday for a hands-on activity and introduction to the month’s special topic. April focuses on wildflowers, May on birds, and June on butterflies. On Thursday travel to the Santa Lucia Preserve in Carmel Valley to see where these things live! The Beach & Tennis Club and The Stillwater Yacht Club present the summer sailing program! American Sailing Association Certified Instruction Classes will allow youth from 8 to 18 to learn to sail. Instruction will include boating safety, rigging a boat, understanding sea and wind conditions, working as a team, nautical terminology, knots, racing and much more. Tours at Wild Things. Take a walk on the Wild Side at the Wild Things in Salinas. Daily public tours every day, 7 days a week - including all holidays except Christmas and Thanksgiving. 1pm only (there is an additional 3pm tour in the months of June, July and August ONLY). $10 per adult, $8 children (14 years and under).
