july 4July 4 - City of Monterey's Annual Admission Free Big Little Backyard Bar-B-Que & Entertainment Extravaganza from 11a.m. to 4:30p.m. at Colton Hall on Pacific Street in downtown Monterey. The event features non-stop live music & entertainment for all ages. Children's entertainment includes free carnival booths & games, face painting, jump houses and balloon artists. Lots of great food provided by non-profit food vendors will be on sale all day, or you can bring a picnic lunch. Please leave your dogs at home. This is an alcohol free family event. July 4 - Spreckels Fourth of July Celebration. Every year the small town of Spreckels throws a festive 4th of July celebration at Spreckels Park. The celebration includes a 5k morning run and a one-mile children's fun run, a parade, and food and crafts booths. The run takes place at 9am every year and the parade follows. July 4 - Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce 4th of July Celebration BBQ. Celebrate the 4th with a BBQ in Caledonia Park. Great food and live entertainment. More information www.pacificgrove.org

July 4 - 31st Annual Fourth of July Firecracker 10K/5K/Kids’ 1K Fun Run - Harvey West Park, Santa Cruz. This year’s featured beneficiary is LEO’s Haven, Santa Cruz County’s first inclusive playground for children with special needs.

Finish line party and free pancake breakfast for all runners. Free Parking on Race Day at Costco Santa Cruz Warriors Basketball is sponsoring a special TEAM Warriors package.

July 27 - 31 - Feast of Lanterns, A Pacific Grove tradition since 1905. The first Feast of Lanterns was held in Pacific Grove in 1905 as part of the Chautauqua closing ceremonies. In 1957, local community leader, Elmarie Dyke revived The Feast as we know it today, with a Royal Court, elegant Chinese costumes, lit lanterns & a sunset performance at Lovers Point Beach.
