January 1 - 28th Annual Rio Resolution Run in Carmel. This run includes a 10K and a 5K course. Walkers, strollers and dogs on a leash are encouraged for this fun event. January 6 - Bring in the New Year Outdoors! Start the new year exercising outdoors in a friendly environment Saturday, January 6 from 8:45a.m. to 11a.m. Join local physicians Dr. Jay Edmunds and Dr. Cindy Lee who specialize in Family Medicine, Wellness and Preventive care, for a hike at Palo Corona Regional Park. January 13 - Mushroom Appreciation Hike at Garland Ranch Regional Park in Carmel Valley. Join amateur mushroom enthusiasts on this informative hike describing and finding various fungi that inhabit Monterey Regional Park District Parks. The hike will begin at 10a.m. and ends at noon. January 13 - Become a Junion Naturalist Join us for this first meeting of the Junior Naturalist Club, as we explore the Pacific Grove's Monarch Sanctuary and learn how to count overwintering butterflies. January 27 & 28 - Whalefest Monterey at Fisherman's Wharf. This free fun and educational, interactive family event for all ages celebrates the migration of the gray whales. The event runs from 10am to 5pm and also benefits many local and national marine organizations that inspire, educate, explore and empower the public to protect the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Among the highlights will be a symposium with lectures and documentaries related to ocean and marine life conservation, musical performances, and many educational displays by participating organizations. January 27 - Science Saturday: Migration at Pacific Grove Museum from 10a.m. - 3p.m. Come see what it’s like to travel hundreds, or even thousands, of miles. Learn what migration is like for different animals. Test your scent memory as you match different rivers like a salmon, discover the incredible migratory journeys of birds, make crafts, and more during Science Saturday: Migration Madness. PG Museum will also be celebrating Sandy the Whale's birthday, and are excited to host Larry Foster - the artist who made Sandy - for a talk and Q & A about the beloved whale on the Museum's front porch.Admission to the Museum during Science Saturday is free to everyone. www.pgmuseum.org
