What's Happening This Month?

July 4 - City of Monterey's Annual Admission Free Big Little Backyard Bar-B-Que & Entertainment Extravaganza from 11am to 4:30pm at Colton Hall on Pacific Street in downtown Monterey. The event features non-stop live music & entertainment for all ages. Featured bands include Monterey Community Band (11am), Foreverland (12pm), Red Beans & Rice (1:30pm) and Lovefool (3pm). Children's entertainment includes free carnival booths & games, face painting, jump houses and balloon artists. Lots of great food provided by non-profit food vendors will be on sale all day, or you can bring a picnic lunch. Please leave your dogs at home. This is an alcohol free family event. July 4 - Spreckels Fourth of July Celebration. Every year the small town of Spreckels throws a festive 4th of July celebration at Spreckels Park. The celebration includes a 5k morning run and a one-mile children's fun run, a parade, and food and crafts booths. The run takes place at 9am every year and the parade follows. July 4 - Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce 4th of July Celebration BBQ. Celebrate the 4th with a BBQ in Caledonia Park. Great food and live entertainment. More information www.pacificgrove.org

July 17 - 20 - California Rodeo Salinas. The California Rodeo Salinas promises thrills for the entire family. Top pro competition in steer wrestling, bull riding, calf roping, bareback bronco riding, and barrel racing. Enjoy parades, night shows and great food. 800-771-8807 or www.carodeo.com

July 23 - 27 - Feast of Lanterns, A Pacific Grove tradition since 1905. The Feast includes a Royal Court, elegant Chinese costumes, lit lanterns, a pet parade beginning at 2pm Friday at Calendonia Park followed by the Feast of Dancing at Chautauqua Hall from 6pm - 9pm. On Saturday enjoy music and children's activities at Lovers Point Park & Pier all day from 11am to 7pm. On Sunday, the festivities close with entertainment & refreshments at Chautauqua Hall. Junior Soccer League - There is only 3 weeks left to register, and spots are filling up fast.
The Monterey Recreation Junior Soccer League is a perfect opportunity for your child to learn and participate on an organized and fun soccer team. Leagues are open for ages 6-13 and teams are formed by the Recreation Staff into age groups of Under 8's, Under 10's, Under 12's and Under 14's. Trained volunteer coaches will teach the fundamentals of soccer, sportsmanship and fun through a minimum of 1 week day practice. Practices will begin the week of August 25.

Pee Wee Soccer
An introduction program for 4 and 5 year olds to the sport of soccer. Players will be taught the basic fundamentals of soccer through an 8-week assortment of instructional drills and games.
Program meets Saturdays from September 13 - November 1, 2014.
Registration Deadline is Friday, August 15, 2014.
